Can I Add InsulationMost definitely, yes! Probably 80% of our calls are from people with no issue other than their insulation has condensed over the years and they are no longer getting the R-Value the original installation was giving them. Also likely is the fact that code requirements were different back then and it was probably never meeting today's code anyway.
Also, rolled batt insulation is designed to fit a very specific size cavity. When there are construction anomalies, and we all have them..., there can be gaps and cracks where energy seepage can occur. When we go over top with blown in, we can blanket over these areas which seals the gaps. It's much more cost effective to skip the removal cost unless there is reason to remove. |
When Must I Remove Old Insulation
There are times when insulation removal is an absolute must. In the case of an infestation. Rats, mice, squirrels, and other would be unwelcome guests tend to leave behind the smells and secretions from where they did their business in your attic. This is a well known cause for mildew and mold to sprout up. We not only remove all insulation in this case but we also treat the area so we end up with a fresh slate before coming back with new insulation.
Prior roof leaks or pipe condensation can also be a source of mildew and mold. If you have it, you can likely smell it and it tends to grow so all must go! |
Unfaced and Faced Insulation for WallsThis is also an area where the product is manufactured for specific wall cavities. The faced gives a little more crack prevention since it comes with a flap that gets stapled to the framing. Some contractors use the unfaced to avoid an uneven plane at the face of the wall studs but we have insulation solutions for all situations.
In some cases, only exterior walls are done but more and more we are getting requests to also do some interior walls for added sound barrier. We have several options when this is the case in today's market. Let our experts guide you through those when you call to schedule your free estimate. |
Cellulose vs Fiberglass
This is an age old question which may confuse some. Not every company offers every option so it may also depend on who you ask.
In the old days, there were many options to choose from but over the years the industry has settled on two main contenders, Fiberglass or Cellulose.
Let's compare
Fiberglass Insulation
These products are comparable and can both get the job done. It really comes down to how long will each last. Cellulose has a tendency to compress more over time. This reduces the R-Value being achieved and may require additional maintenance at shorter intervals. Fiberglass has better staying power and has more options to allow for ease of installation making it more attractive to installers.
